Prepare to be disappointed.

yeah - the back has a bit of a 2nd gen Mazda Speed3 look to it, (which isn’t a bad thing.)

New model? I don't think I've seen that

I agree. Would be a good little car I’m sure. Not the most exciting but a good car that doesn’t suck.

In Europe, the hottest version is the 2.0 hybrid.
(I mean, it’s actually hotter on paper than ours - 178 hp - but not anything more than warm.)

I have to admit, I prefer the way this looks over the Civic hatch, but I’m sure the Civic hatch would be the better driving of the two....
I really want to test drive one, but haven’t seen any at dealerships near me.

Oh I know but something like the xrs of yore would really be amazing

Toyota can’t design bumper to save it’s life.

So much styling, competing with Honda I guess. Bold!

One of the best looking hatchbacks, ever...

It has less black plastic than Honda! Somewhat!

Yep, new model and platform. Only one on the lot, no price tag. Maybe for a promo...?

Dealbreaker:
I’m petty like that.

It’s not warm either. That car is very specifically meant for comfort and economy. It’s almost literally a Prius with a conventional body.

To be fair, the Prius has a 121 hp 1.8 liter powertrain (which is also available in the new Auris/Corolla Hatch over there). And 178 hp is legitimately decent for a “normal” compact hatchback.

Oh absolutely. I don’t think this new one is available here yet, but if it’s anything like previous generations of the Toyota compact hatch we’ve been getting in Europe ‘sporty’ isn’t one of its many qualities. Like I said, reskinned Prius. Some extra hp won’t change this much. But who knows, maybe Toyota will do something entirely new. I’m skeptical though.
